A Case of Mistaken Identity

A Case of Mistaken Identity

You ask why it is that you suffer. And you want answers that make sense to you. But you do not even understand the nature of your own question. It is the one with the question who is the source of the suffering. This may not be what you want to hear, but it is true. You have split yourself off into the illusion of a separate identity, as a separate person, as a separate 'self' – this alone is the cause of all your troubles.

You are like a brilliant flower claiming that it is but a leaf upon the stem; concentrating its attention on the realms of leafdom. It is a mistaken perspective, but that mistaken perspective does not change the simple fact that you are the whole entire flower, not just one of its leaves. It is exactly because you are a flower, pretending to be a leaf, that you find yourself unsatisfied with life.

"You are like a brilliant flower claiming that it is but a leaf upon the stem."

And how could it be any other way? You are not acknowledging your whole self, your true self; you are limiting yourself to but a fraction of what you are – how very unsatisfying indeed… And what you really want to know is how to get out of this predicament of yours – you, the leaf. But what can the leaf do? It is the flower that must recognize itself, that must remember and reclaim its wholeness. The leaf can do nothing at all.

And so here we are, flower and leaf… with absolutely nothing to do but bask in the sun, dance in the rain, and nourish our roots; for these things are of equal importance to both the flower and to the leaf. Perhaps it is in this similarity that our unity is found and the false identification with being a leaf dissolves into remembrance of the flower that it has always been. Let us watch together and see.

I love you, Namaste, God Bless, and take care.
