Sitting in Truth with Bradley: Session 38

Oneness, Emptiness, and the Dance of Duality

Many people have an intellectual understanding of Oneness as a spiritual concept – some have even witnessed this Oneness within themselves.  But Oneness, without emptiness, is only half a truth.  If everything is One, are you that One? And if you are that One, then what is your explanation for the experience of ‘self’ and ‘other’? Or are ‘self’ and ‘other’ conceptual notions that are empty of reality – born of thought – products of the mind?  If ‘self’ is an illusory product of the mind, are ‘you’ still that One?

The Truth is that when we look deeply into our conceptual notion of ‘self’ and begin to examine our patterns of identification with thought, we begin to see for ourselves that we are not our thoughts, but rather, we are the silent, spacious awareness within which our thoughts arise – and all thoughts, including thoughts of ‘self’ and ‘other’, are witnessed from a position of surrender that completely clarifies what Oneness really means…

Assigned Homework:

Take some time this week to notice the minds conditioned tendency to isolate, separate, and differentiate every-thing; how quick it is to cast its conceptual overlay on the world of your experience – labeling everything and giving it meaning.  Try seeing if you can let your vision relax, in a proper setting of course, to the point that you can let everything blur together in a silent stream of non-identified wholeness.  Hold it for as long as you can – even if only for a moment.  Do this several times each day and see if it has anything to offer.
